Neoplasia induced in rat embryos by roentgen irradiation.

چکیده
During the course of studies on the over-all effects of irradiation on embryonic development, it was observed that tumor-like growths occurred in the head region of rats exposed to x-rays on the ninth day of gestation (6). Although all were probably of neural origin, many of these growths retained no connection with the brain. Disordered growth in the central nervous system, including malformations and localized aberrations of brain tissue known as "rosettes," has been repeatedly

Craniospinal Irradiation in Medulloblastoma using High Energy Medical Linear Accelerator: an Innovative Approach to Planning Technique
Background: Craniospinal irradiation (CSI) of medulloblastoma poses technological challenges due to the involvement of large treatment volume. Commonly, the whole treatment length is covered with two different isocentric plans in which the junction is shifted after every five fractions to overcome the possibility of hot and cold spot. Objective: This study aims to evaluate dosimetrically and cli...
متن کاملEffect of vitamin E on preovulatory stage irradiated female mouse expressed as chromosomal abnormalities in generated embryos
Background: The present study has been carried out to investigate the effects of preovulatory stage gamma-irradiation of female mice in the absence or presence of vitamin E on numerical chromosome abnormalities in 8-cell embryos after mating with non-irradiated males. Materials and Methods: The 8-11 weeks adult female NMRI mice were whole body irradiated at preovulatory stage (post PMSG inject...
متن کاملMorphine delays fovea development in the eyes of Wistar rat embryos possible involvement of corticosterone
Abstract* Introduction: Visual system have been considered as among important sensory system in animals’ life span and their survival is closely related to normal visual system functioning. Since in previous studies it have been revealed that morphine consumption during pregnancy could lead to defect and delay in nervous system development in the embryos, in the present study, changes induc...
متن کاملThe effect of roentgen rays upon the electrical excitability of the human eye.
It was reported by Brandes1) that a sensation of light was evoked by Roentgen rays. Since then this phenomenon has been investigated by Newell and Borley,2) Belluci,3) Lipetz4) and others. Lipetz4) showed that the Roentgen rays produced a lowering in responsivity of the retina to light and Roentgen rays, taking spike potentials from ganglion cells of the frog retina as an index. Recently Tarusa...
متن کاملProtective Effect of Low Dose Melatonin on Radiation-Induced Damage to Rat Liver
Background: Melatonin is a free radical scavenger. It has also antioxidant effects through its stimulatory actions on antioxidant system. Objective: We conducted this study to examine the effect of different oral doses of melatonin on liver tissue. Methods: We used 42 rats—6 rats in each group. Group I served as the control group; group II rats were pretreated with only melatonin; group III w...
